The Food Storage Class on using Macaroni and Pinto Beans was fun and we shared the history and nutritional values of each of these food storage staples.  That information, along with some classic old as well as some interesting new recipes for both macaroni and pinto beans are included in the class handout (attached).  Even more exciting, however, was the presentation done by our guest speaker Jerry Shulman, the owner of Camping Maxx.  Jerry is the exhibitor from our Emergency Preparedness Expo with the large emergency preparedness trailer that was located outside with the emergency vehicles.  (For those of you who could not attend the Expo or missed this exhibit, Camping Maxx is like the “candy store” for any emergency preparedness item you could ever need and with very reasonable prices.) Some of those items will be listed on our website soon for you to order directly.  Jerry kindly consented to bringing many of the items he felt were necessary for survival and in discussing emergency shelter and personal safety and hygiene.  In fact, his presentation was so well received that all those in attendance wanted to see and learn more, so Jerry kindly invited all of us to make a field trip up to his display center in Costa Mesa.  We are planning to meet in the Stake Center parking lot to car pool up there on Saturday, December 1st at 9:00 AM.  Anyone interested in this field trip, please RSVP to Nancy Sutherland at scnsland@gmail.com. so we can prepare Jerry for the number of guests arriving. If you don’t want to meet at the Stake Center to car pool, Nancy will send you the driving directions but we should all arrive at the warehouse at 10 am for the tour.
